FIRST RESIDENTS MOVE INTO EXTRA CARE APARTMENTS

Avantage is celebrating after the first residents successfully moved into its development of Extra Care apartments in Crewe.

The Beechmere development is the last of five new Avantage sites to open its doors to residents, and the day marked a huge milestone in the improvement of housing for people over 60 in Cheshire. The Beechmere development is now fully open and provides a wide range of facilities including an IT suite, a hairdressers, library, gym and village hall which both residents and non-residents over the age of 60 are able to use.

Located on Rolls Avenue, Beechmere contains 132 Extra Care apartments, and is available for Crewe residents over the age of 60 to buy, part-buy or rent. Claire Henning, sales manager from Avantage, comments: “We were delighted to see the first of our residents move into Beechmere, and it will be interesting to hear how they enjoy living at the development over the coming months. With on-site support if needed, and a great social calendar to look forward to, I am sure the residents of Beechmere will thrive on the new way of life which Avantage has to offer.

“Extra Care is a fantastic concept and with a total of five new sites now open in the region, I hope other counties around the U.K. will take Cheshire’s lead from the progress being made here.”

Extra Care housing offers safe and secure accommodation for people over 60 and provides additional support if required, such as access to 24 hour on-call staff, as well as offering a range of great facilities and social activities. It helps older people live independently in their own homes, with varying levels of support adapted to their changing situation.

Avantage, a leading provider of Extra Care developments, is celebrating after its latest sales figures revealed that almost a third of its new Extra Care apartments in Cheshire have now been allocated.

Three of Avantage’s five new Extra Care developments across Cheshire are now open, with the first residents already enjoying the benefits of Extra Care. The sites, at Handforth, Middlewich, Ellesmere Port, Crewe and Winsford, all offer safe and secure accommodation for people over the age of 60.

Ian Perry, Chairman of Avantage, commented: “We are delighted by the number of apartments that have already been allocated across Cheshire. Despite the current economic climate, it is clear that people over 60 in Cheshire recognise the benefits of Extra Care.”

Ian continued: “Even the developments in Winsford and Crewe, which are yet to open, have recorded excellent sales results, showing that the facilities really do speak for themselves and people don’t want to miss out on the chance of securing an apartment.”

Avantage is the consortium chosen by Cheshire County Council to design, build and operate five Extra Care Housing developments across the county.  It is made up of Harvest Housing Group, MJ Gleeson Group and Nationwide Building Society.

Extra Care housing provides additional support to people living in their own homes, with facilities designed to improve the quality of living for this age group by allowing them to stay active, make new friends and remain in their own home for as long as possible.

Each new self-contained apartment is available to rent, buy or part-buy through a shared-ownership scheme, with 24 hour on-call care available for all residents when required.
